The Top Twelve Sins of Marketing Gurus (and Their Books) by Uri Baruchin

110236504_8614502532_m Oy vey, Uri calls out marketing gurus with this top twelve list. By my count, I’ve committed at least five of these sins, but I won’t reveal which five. :-)

» About Marketing Gurus from Deviant Abstraction
I just found this text on marketing gurus. There is nothing new: it states that gurus are just gurus and you should instead think by yourself. This apply of course to tech gurus. The real question is what difference a gurus from a thinker? Is gurus a... [Read More]

» Our Love and Hate Relationship with Guru-ism from De Gardener
The basic concept of Guru-ism seems to be triggering a lot of emotional reactions and discussions. Fellow blogger compatriot, Uri Baruchin (and got a billboard push by Guy Kawasaki) and even I myself have touched on it at a point. Oren Friedman sent me... [Read More]

I'm beginning to move to the school of thought that lists are just lazy writing. Was he being deliberately ironic in making this one barely legible?

Someone should create a book which contains a compilation of marketing books. If they condensed each book down to 30 pages, they could express the strongest points of 10 different books in one nice little package.

Uri:"those tricks are OK when done in moderation"

Sin if you will.. but Sin in moderation..
Amen Brother! (big grin)

BTW I love your article.. I agree with your evangelism as well!

For me: 1, 2, 3, 5, and 11...could have been worse...I guess :)

-Brandon Hopkins

How cute.

in order 10,9,3,5,1

it's ok, i still subscribe to your evangelisim.

Quid quid latine dictum sit, altum videtur.

Well, i can't say everything just in one humorous post... :-)

As I said in the comments on my blog - all those tricks are OK when done in moderation and when they don't overtake the content like they often do.

I think Uri is putting down what gurus are doing to create a "system" that is unique to them. I disagree. As a brander (http://www.brandingonthenet.com) I work with authors, speaker, consultants to help them create a unique system, brand, motto, slogan etc that is their own. You have to create your own approach that others will want to subscribe to.

I disagree with Uri on this. Also notice, he is putting this down, but he doesn't offer what he feels is the RIGHT way to do it. Ha!

Ahh.. but Uri is committing a new sin..
The sin of debunking
Simply describing a pattern of behavior or pointing out an error of thinking, does not imply that your view is right or invalidate the other’s point. Though the result will most likely make you look smart.

Of course the sin of debunking is forgivable when it is used to beat up on the Marketing department.

Oh, that's easy: 1, 5 and 12 certainly, 2 and 11 probably. :)

Cheers for the shout out Guy!
