Two Gems

Two little gems rolled across my desktop today:

First, a blog about gift giving. Perhaps a little late for Mother's Day, but Father's Day is coming. Check out "The Art of Gift Giving" by Carolyn Goodwin. This is a great guide to getting more analog in a world that's too digital. I loved this little reminder:

Step 1: Give gifts because you want to, not because you are obligated to do so.

Second, my buddy Eric at Apple/Ice Oasis showed me a blog called Creating Passionate Users. In an entry called "Popularity Breeds Contempt," I learned this great comeback to critics:

Ask the critics, "How long did you try it before you came to these conclusions? Because the feedback is really important to us."

Regarding gift-giving: Our family has found it to be very beneficial to place a reasonable limit upon the amount that each person spends on each other.

Some would say that if people have already written your product off, you'll never get them back. So you can try to convince them to change their mind or drop it and find some other customers who are likely predisposed to like your product.

The way you've been blogging over the last 3-4 weeks is much more valuable than prior to that.

When you wrote, ” I don’t get this “exchanging links” thing....", you were more me-centric and now you freely link out, sometimes it seems, just for the joy of linking.

No can say that I'm not a fast study. :-) I still don't consider myself a "free linker." I will only do it with blogs that truly add value to my readers. I won't like just for the quid pro quo of it all.

You are right that I do enjoy linking--particularly to relatively unknown sites that are "gems."

I will, and have, very seldom linked to A listers. :-) Then again, check back in a few weeks...
