Call for Nominations--Launch: Silicon Valley

Launch_logo.gif

SVASE (Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs) is hosting an event called “Launch: Silicon Valley” on November 8 at the Microsoft Campus in Mountain View, California.

SVASE is looking for new companies that are ready for launch or have launched recently. If you want to nominate a company, please email a two-page executive summary to:

LaunchSV@svase.org.

(If you do apply, please read this blog entry about executive summaries. It will help your nomination a lot.

The deadline for nominations is October 15. Launch: Silicon Valley is not a pitchfest, and companies will not be allowed to ask for investments. They will, however, generate buzz, excite customers, recruit talent, and unearth partners. SVASE wants to find companies that are not already well-funded and well-known and that can’t afford their own fancy PR campaigns.

This advisory board of venture capitalists and executives will review all nominations:

  • Bill Reichert, Managing Director, Garage Technology Ventures

  • John Occhipinti, Managing Director, Woodside Fund

  • David Aslin, General Partner, 3i

  • Ian Sobiesky, Managing Director, Band of Angels

  • Warren Packard, Managing Director, Draper, Fisher, Jurvetson

  • Cliff Reeves, General Manager, .NET Platform Strategy Microsoft

  • Arthur Coleman, President, re: Thought

Garage Technology Ventures and Microsoft are co-sponsors of the event. If you have any questions about the event, or if you want to register to attend, look here.

Earlier that day, Garage and SVASE are also running a conference called “The Art of the Start.” Click here for details.

Just saw this on Guy Kawasaki's blog and wanted to get the word out. Here's a blurb from the site: On November 8, at the Microsoft Campus in Mountain View, CA, the next generation of emerging technology companies will have the opportunity to tell thei... [Read More]

I read your blog as often as you post... first comment. Could the SVASE not find *any* qualified women to serve on the advisory board?

Thanks for giving us the heads up on Launch

Off topic, but the advertisements did come up in other comments. Imagine how good the logoworks advertisement on the right would be doing if they were giving "The Art of the Start” books as the gift. Get on that, it would obviously be of great benefit to yourself also.

In response to the "gross ad" the culprit is here:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/guykawasaki/Gypm?i=http%3A//blog.guykawasaki.com/2006/09/call_for_nomina.html&showad=true

Personally I use Firefox with 2 key extensions:
- Adblock Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/)
- Adblock Filterset (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1136/)

With these two I very rarely see ads on websites. (Although if I find something useful I will disable them and click an ad to support the author). Anyway......

Using those tools the problem is with feedburner. Could be an option somewhere to specify what type of ad, but my guess is not due to this little baby: "&showad=true"

Hope that helps, and if you want more help or details, feel free to contact me directly.

No Sweat Guy. Thanks for being so responsive. I"FeedBurner" may be doing some shady business.

BTW I spoke to an entrepreneurship class at Boston University last night and got everyone pumped about buying "The Art of the Start". I've read 40+ books on the subject (including your other works), but I feel the Art of the Start is hands down the best. All the kids seemed really pumped to hear about a book that is to the point, funny and effective. Hopefully you'll get a few extra sales out it.

Thanks for giving us the heads up on Launch: Silicone Valley. I'm really pumped by the fact that it is helping companies get exposure and PR. dangel

Guy,

Thanks for giving us the heads up on Launch: Silicone Valley. I'm really pumped by the fact that it is helping companies get exposure and PR.

I also agree with the Steve Nguyen that the banner in the middle of your blog is really annoying. The ads on the side I actually read and find interesting, but that big middle ad spot is very distracting. I think Google has proven that tasteful, relevant advertising works much better than stuffing a 100x100 pixel banner down people's throat. And yes, we need to kill the comment spam.

SVASE is such an awesome organization connecting other entrepreneurs in SV. I'm glad it's being mentioned on your blog to get the exposure it needs, Guy.

Guy, check out the comment spam.

BAH, stupid language tools!!!!!!!!!

Thank the lord and google for language tools!

Guy: Please take this as constructive criticism since this is your website and not mine. It seems to me that your "blog" is turning into an advertising billboard complete with flashing signs, as shown by the "Xdrive" ad. While I do understand that your blog generates revenues for you and your business, I think that plastering your site with too many ad banners detract from the content and in some way put a big "for sale" sign on your name. I'm not saying to not advertise, just do it "tastefully." Again just my opinion.

Guy, this is an awesome idea and a great service, filling an even greater need/gap in what's available to entrepreneurs, who have not yet reached the well funded stage.

regards

Imran
