Cool Stuff Monday

Zody Chair

Zody Chair at Sit4Less.jpg

First, the kind folks at Sit4Less sent me a Haworth Zody. It is the most comfortable office chair that I’ve ever used. You can tweak it in more ways than an open-source SQL database. If anything, it’s so supportive that you’ll sit too long and blog too much!

Valet

Second, Valet is a Macintosh utility that records the applications that you use and provides quick and easy access to them. Since I started using it about six months ago, I hardly use Apple’s Dock. Check it out if you want to organize files and applications in folders.

The Big Curmudgeon

Third, my buddy Jon Winokur, antagonist of France and America, just came out with another great collection of sarcasm and wit called The Big Curmudgeon: 2,500 Outrageously Irreverent Quotations from World-Class Grumps and Cantankerous Commentators. If you want many good chuckles, get this book.

Jon even interviewed me and put a caricature of me on the cover, so I have “arrived.” Speaking of arriving (and self-flattery). I was in the Denver airport the other day. This college-student age looking woman gets out of her seat and gives me her cell phone, so I immediately start hallucinating: “She’s recognized me, so she’s going to show me that she’s reading my blog. Or, she wants to show me an email where someone has sung my praises to her.”

I read the draft text message that’s on her phone, and it said, “Your zipper is down, and I thought I would tell you.” How funny is that? Almost as funny as my Jackie Chan story.

I think I'll have to try out one of those chairs. It sure looks more comfy than my exercise ball i normally sit on.

Cheers, ToNy!

ok- I have to find this ZODY chair locally! I have always been a fan of the Herman Miller Aeron - but I have to tell you, after sitting, on and off, for about 9-10 hours a day, it's wrecking my back and neck. I try to maintain good posture and take breaks throughout the day, but I am giving up on the HM chair. Thanks for the tip!

Dang - I wish there were such great deals on the Zody over here in EU. -:)

Geez. That Zody chair looks comfortable!

Curmudgeon? A long time favorite, Find out about an Curmudgeon-online version.
Here's one from an unknown author: "In a few minutes a computer can make a mistake so great that it would have taken many men many months to equal it."

Winokur's "How To Win at Golf Without Playing Well" is one of the funniest books I have read. Golfers will love it and non-golfers will smugly enjoy it as well. It may be out of print but is readily and cheaply available on the web. His Curmudgeon books come in handy in the can. BTW, terrific presentation in Iowa last week.

Talking about cool stuff.. this great portal ListaGo.com is great! It has all the links and features I could ask from a portal with FAST loading times. Check it out - http://www.listago.com

what's up with the product plugs?

Never mind the chair, compute standing up, guaranteed to loose 5 pounds, in a month, back and neck pain will disappear too. Dare you to try it!

Valet has a terrific freeware equivalent for Windows called Find And Run Robot. I no longer use Mobydock or my Start button anymore, it just works. Although I donated to the project after the fact, I have no affiliation.

"Your zipper is down, and I thought I would tell you."

Lady Rache tells me this twice daily: before I leave and after I arrive home

I've tried Valet before and I find it easier to do ctrl+space and typing the first few letters of the application I want to launch rather than navigating through a bunch of folders.

Must be a case of mouse vs keyboard people.

I wish someone would send me a chair that sexy... Of course, it would need to look good with my awesome antique writing desk (generously left to me by my late grandfather).

Correct me if I'm wrong but if Americans are willing to spend over $600 on a device that supports our asses, then let me be first to declare, "Today begins the Fall of the American Empire!" :-)

Now don't get me wrong; I have my extravagances. Yet how could we Americans descend to a level in fewer than 100 years of evolution where you can't get comfortable without an Aeron is beyond me. Ergonomics has therefore determined that THINKING causes too much stress to the brain. So let's not do THAT again! Sonsh.

I read "The Big Curmudgeon" not too long ago. I agree: It is an excellent book. I would recomment it to anybody. Your chair looks very comfortable, by the way.

I just love the Robochair on the Sit4Less link! Maybe I will adapt something similar to my wheelchair base. Gizmo, yes....Cool...absolutely.....

Has anybody used both Valet and Quicksilver? I'm using Quicksilver and I find it pretty darn efficient.

I just bought a Herman Miller Aeron, which I have to say is a fantastic chair too! Unfortunately for me, I didn't get it for free, but I did get a great deal at $300 on craigslist. The zody looks like a great alternative if you're paying full retail for this type of chair.

Love it.
That's the world keeping you humble.
