Facebook Friday: Celeb Heads

I am going to feature a Facebook app every Friday—“Facebook Friday.” (An evangelist never rests.) Today’s app is Celeb Heads from Fafarazzi.com.

Celeb Heads enables people to send their friends free celebrity heads (also known as “fafa heads”). These heads mark a mood, attitude, event, trait, or feature of a friend. There are currently sixty-two different celeb heads with different themed messages ranging from "Hello" to "You need rehab." The celebs used so far go from Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears to Jake Gyllenhaal and David Beckham.

You pick a celeb head, type in a personal message, and select your privacy option. The recipient will receive an email notification with a link to view their celeb head. The celeb heads will also be featured on his or her profile in the Celeb Heads profile box. Click here to install it. You may think this type of app (“Send celebrity heads?”) is crazy, but this is the nature of Facebook apps, so we all need to get used to it. :-)

By the way, Fafarazzi.com is the celebrity gossip world's answer to Fantasy Sports. The site enables people to a create/join a league, invite their friends, and draft their team of celebrities. Celebrities are then measured by their publicity in the online entertainment/gossip world.

I'm just wondering if you need to ask for celebrity's consent to use her/his head like that? :) Of course, it plays out nicely for a celebrity by increasing publicity, but what is the legal viwpoint on this?

Trust me, if you create a Facebook app with hundreds of thousands of users, you'll make money. You can run your own ads in Facebook.

I don't understand this. Why should we get used to it. If the apps serve no real benefit aside from being crazy (or cute, strange, etc.) then shouldn't we just ignore them.

I guess my real question is, "What's the real point of Facebook Friday?" Are you showing us budding entrepreneurs ideas we can use to start a business? Because if so, I'd love some insight into why you think this app is worth showing more than the thousands of other apps.

I love your blog, but if you're going to do a Facebook Friday I would much rather read about apps that can make Facebook a more useful and efficient machine for me to use in my entrepreneurial endeavors. Not to just waste time being silly.

(Or maybe I just need to take a nap.)

Hey Guy,

I have a quick suggestion on Truemors but didn't find a feedback page in there. So I am leaving it here. When someone tries to make a post, there is a field for name and email address but there is no field for website. Why would people post in any site, if they don't have a return for that.. For example, in Techcrunch, if you manage to make a comment, you are sure to get hits on the site linked to your name, even after a couple of months after making the comment. You might want to add that feature to Truemors. Or if you had a reason not to do that, then it's fine...

what do you like aobut facebook like what makes it soo much better then myspace that everyone ditched myspace and went to facebook tell me how and why is it better i really dont get it at all like there the same only myspace is a little bit better if your a band why dont people just keep both of there accounts i dont get it please fill me in all my friends TOTALLY ditched myspace and now i only have like 70 friends maybe i have facebook and its only my BFFS but i think facebook is kinda nosey like when you go on it it tells you what everyone did at like whatever time its like STALKER maybe kinda creepy but i have to say at least at everyones profile on facebook i dont have to see really skinny girls in there bikinis in there bathrooms you know what i mean its kinda werid like why do girls these days have to be sooo sluty? likes come you got 12 year old girls wearing short leather skirts with fish nets i dont get it why would you dress your 12year old child likes that well this is long

You are right. These lightweight goofy apps are currently the predominate nature of facebook apps at the current time.
